When firefighters, police officers and paramedics put their safety on the line, they are acting in service to all Canadians
In recognition of the critical role of first responders in protecting Canadians, the Memorial Grant Program for First Responders provides a one-time lump sum, tax-free maximum payment of $300,000 to the families of first responders who have died as a result of their duties.
On December 21st, 2020, a planned expansion to include the families of correctional, parole and probation officers was announced. Eligible families can apply in early 2021. More information will be available soon.
In the coming months, the Government of Canada will move forward with a targeted consultation to discuss the needs of other public safety personnel as they pertain to this recognition program.
